The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden is a 66-acre horticultural haven nestled along the shores of White Rock Lake in East Dallas. Renowned as one of the top botanical gardens globally, it offers a serene escape with meticulously curated gardens, seasonal festivals, educational programs, and historic landmarks.

Gardens & Attractions

With 19 named gardens, the Arboretum showcases a diverse array of flora and landscapes.

  • Margaret Elizabeth Jonsson Color Garden: Spanning 6.5 acres, this garden features sweeping beds of seasonal flowers, including over 2,000 varieties of azaleas, daffodils, tulips, and pansies.
  • A Woman’s Garden: A 1.8-acre formal garden celebrating the strength and creativity of women, featuring sculptures, terraced walkways. and a 140-foot hanging garden cite.
  • Nancy Rutchik Red Maple Rill: A tranquil 2-acre space with over 80 varieties of Japanese maples, meandering streams, and waterfalls
  • Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden: An 8-acre interactive garden designed to connect children with nature through 17 galleries and over 150 exhibits focused on life and Earth sciences.
  • A Tasteful Place: A 3.5-acre garden, pavilion, and kitchen inspired by the movement toward growing and eating fresh, sustainable, locally-grown food. Enjoy daily tastings made with seasonal produce, cooking demonstrations.

Historic DeGolyer House

Built between 1938 and 1940, the 25,000-square-foot DeGolyer House reflects Everette and Nell DeGolyer’s interests in Mexico, the Southwest and America. Everette was a noted petroleum geologist, while Nell was active in charity work and the arts. The house includes a framed invitation to a 1963 luncheon with President John F. Kennedy, which was cut short by his assassination. Guided tours are included with admission and run hourly from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

Seasonal Event

Autumn at the Arboretum: A festive display with pumpkin houses and seasonal decorations.​

The Arboretum hosts several signature events throughout the year:

  • Dallas Blooms: The largest annual floral festival in the Southwest, featuring over 500,000 spring-blooming buls.
  • Autumn at the Arboretum:  Showcases over 90,000 pumpkins, gourds, and squash fashioned into houses.
  • Holiday at the Arboretum:  Celebrates the 12 Days of Christmas with elaborate decorations, over one million lights, and visits from Santa Claus.

  • Restaurant DeGolyer: Located inside the historic DeGolyer House, offering lunch daily and Sunday brnch.
  • Lula Mae Slaughter Dining Terrac: Offers quick and convenient soups, salads, and sandwihes.
  •  Café on the Green: Provides casual outdoor dining paired with live or recorded.

Guests are also welcome to bring their own food and drinks for a picnic in the Arboretum, Garden.
